Cedar Roof Fasteners

Cedar roof fasteners are specialized nails or attachment systems used to secure cedar shakes and shingles to the roof decking. Proper fastener selection is essential because cedar roofing is exposed to continuous moisture cycles and environmental stress.

Stainless steel nails are commonly recommended for cedar roofs because they resist corrosion and prevent staining caused by chemical reactions between cedar oils and metal fasteners. Galvanized nails may also be used depending on environmental conditions and installation specifications.

Correct nail placement is critical for allowing natural cedar movement during expansion and contraction. Overdriven or improperly positioned fasteners can split the wood and reduce roof lifespan.

Fasteners must also penetrate deeply enough into the decking to maintain secure attachment under wind and weather loads.

Improper fastening techniques are a common cause of premature cedar roof failure, making installation expertise especially important in cedar roofing systems.
